Dutch minister in Sudan for talks on Darfur reconstruction conference
May 26, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Dutch Development Cooperation Minister, Agnes van Ardenne arrived in Khartoum Friday evening in a visit to Sudan to review donor conference preparations for the reconstruction of Darfur with Sudanese official.
Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohmmed Salaheddin, told the state-run SUNA the visiting Minister would focus on the latest developments in Darfur issue following the recent peace agreement signed in Abuja on May 5.
The Ambassador further added that the tow sides would exchange points of views with respect to hosting a donors’ conference by Netherlands in the coming period in order to support the peace agreement in Darfur.
The Netherlands which chair the Core Coordination Group of Darfur reconstruction would organise a workshop in The Hague in early June on this regard.
He explained that the two sides would review all aspects of bilateral relations, especially in domains of Economics and Culture. In this regard, Ambassador Salaheddin revealed that the Netherlands expressed readiness to rehabilitate the River Transport Corporation.
He explained that during her visit to Sudan, Agnes would fly to Juba to open an office for the donors in Southern Sudan.
As for the bilateral relations, the Ambassador explained that the coming period would witness approval of an agreement on encouragement and protection of investment between the two countries by the Cabinet and the Parliament.
Agnes is due to hold talks with the Foreign Minister Lam Akol Friday evening and will be received by the President of the Republic and the two Vice Presidents Saturday.
