“Huge fire” at Sudanese power station; Khartoum in darkness

KHARTOUM, Nov. 11, 2003 (MENA) — A huge fire erupted late Tuesday in the main power plant that provides the Sudanese capital Khartoum with electricity, leaving the city in complete darkness and with almost no tap water.

A security source denied, in statements to MENA correspondent, that the fire might be an arson or sabotage.

A number of fire-fighting engines are trying to put out the fire.
