Attacks not affect peace process in Darfur – army
June 2, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Assistant of the Representative of the President of the Republic in the Darfur States Lt. Gen Mohammed Ahmed Ad-Daby said the attacks carried out by some outlaws in Darfur would not affect the peace process.
In interview with the state-run SUNA, Ad-Daby said the recent assaults were carried out by movements which refused to sign the peace deal and elements who do not want peace.
He pointed out that most of field commanders in Darfur affiliate to Minni Arkoy faction.
We expected that the African Union which assisted in reaching agreement with international community support to impose sanctions against those who refused to sign, he added.
He stressed that the government is capable to hold control of the area and to protect its civilians.
Ad-Daby commended the role played by Libya in the peace process in Darfur, calling upon it to continue its efforts for implementation of the Agreement.
