KHARTOUM, Nov. 12, 2003 — Presidential Adviser for Peace Dr Ghazi Salah-al-Din together with the IGAD [Inter-Governmental Authority on Development] peace envoy to Sudan, Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo, reviewed the issues to be discussed in the coming round of peace negotiations between the government and the SPLA [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] in Kenya, on 30 November 2003.
Dr Ghazi disclosed that Sumbeiywo’s visit is in the framework of following up issues to be discussed in the coming round of negotiations which entered an important political phase and required political decisions.
He further added that it has been assured that it is possible to reach an all out peace before end of December 2003 if efforts focused on big issues.
Dr Ghazi concluded that the meeting discussed the role of mediators, experts and means of running around with peace talks and Sumbeiywo’s role is to contact the other party to agree on the IGAD’s proposal for managing the peace talks.
