Ethiopia’s Argoba political forces decide to merge in one party
June 6, 2006 (DESE, northern Ethiopia) — The Argoba People’s Democratic Movement (ANDM) and the Argoba National Democratic Organization (ANDO) said they have agreed in a joint meeting on Sunday 4 June to merge into one strong party.
The executive and central committee members and community elders had held separate and joint meetings before having agreed on the merger.
At the conclusion in Harbu town on Sunday of their joint meeting, the organizations agreed to merge and do their level best for the needs of the members of the Argoba people.
The merger, they said, would be instrumental to make the Argoba people beneficiaries of development and good governance, as well as to guarantee the rights stipulated in the Federal Constitution.
The merger would also be vital to maintain peace and deliver speedy justice to the Argoba people, they said.
In a statement they sent, the organizations said a joint technical committee entrusted with the task of overseeing the implementation of the agreement was formed.
According to the results of 15 may 2006 election , the ANDO obtained one seat in the federal parliament.
