China to construct 25 locomotives for Sudan – minister
June 9, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — China have agreed to construct 25 locomotives with Sudanese specifications at a cost of cost of $89 million, announced Minister of Transport and Roads and Bridge Eng.
He added that the Chinese company, the biggest in trains’ technology worldwide, produces around 320 locomotives annually and exports its products to all parts of the world.
The Indian Central Railway workshop at Golden Rock has despatched in October 2005 three modified ‘Cape Gauge’ locomotives to the Sudan Railway Corporation (SRC), as part of an agreement signed between SRC and the Railway Technical and Economic Services (RITES) India. Under the agreement, 10 modified surplus Metre gauge locomotives will be exported to Sudan.
