Sudan designates Eastern Sudan talks’ delegation
June 11, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese government announced formation of its delegation for the next week s with the rebel Eastern Front, the Presidential advisor Mustafa Osman Ismail will head this delegation.
The Council of Ministers, chaired by president Omer Al-Bashir, Sunday decided to form the government delegation to the negotiations with the Eastern Font in Asmara from all the components and parties of the national unity government under the chairmanship of the Presidential Advisor, Mustafa Osman Ismail.
The Sudanese government and the rebel Eastern Front on Thursday 25 May signed in the Eritrean capital an agreement on the procedural arrangements for the peace talks. The negotiations will start on 13 June.
Eritrea will play the role of the mediator in the coming negotiations between the two parties.
The Eastern Sudan negotiations will be conducted by high – level delegations, and the participation of experts and specialists, provided that each of the negotiation parties shall officially give lists on the names of its members to the mediator.
Observers, who are to be named through consultation with the two parties at the outset of the negotiations, will attend the talks.
The Eastern Front called for the participation of the United Nations in the talks.
