Salva Kiir suspends W. Equatoria governor over corruption accusation

June 16, 2006 (JUBA) — The head of South Sudan government has issued a decree suspending the Western Equatoria State governor Patrick Zomai over corruption accusations, a news report said today.

According to the BBC Africa report broadcasted Friday from Juba, the Sudan’s First Vice-President and President of Southern Sudan Government Lt Gen. Salva Kiir has issued a decree suspending the WES Governor Col Patrick Zomai over accusation of corruption .

Zomai is put under house arrest, the BBC reported.

Reports from Southern Sudan say the WES governor is victim of biased reports against Azande and Moru leaders following the tribal clashes between their tribes and Dinka Bor displaced community members earlier this year.
