Garang-Taha peace talks resume in December in Kenya?
KHARTOUM, Nov. 13, 2003 (KUNA) — Peace talks between Vice-president Ali Othman Taha and rebel leader John Garang will be resumed on December 5 in Kenya, it was announced here on Thursday.
There will be a round of preliminary talks between the Sudanese government and Garang’s Sudan People’s Liberation Movement ahead of the December meeting between Garang and Taha, said Sudanese Presidential advisor Ghazi Alatbani, in remarks he made to the press today.
Alatbani discounted the possibility that the December talks would be elevated to the presidential level requiring the participation of President Omar Albashir.
The advisor emphasized that the next round of talks would deal with political choices that must be made in view of the fact that all technical aspects of issues on the table have already been thoroughly propounded.
