Egypt to host meeting on Darfur reconstruction

June 18, 2006 (CAIRO) — The Egyptian Foreign Ministry is to host on Tuesday the first meeting on backing the post-war peace-building and reconstruction process in the Western Sudan’s region of Darfur.

The meeting is part of Egypt’s drive at the regional and international levels to take serious and fruitful steps on the road to build peace in Darfur.

Ambassador Masum Marzuq, the director of Sudan Department at the Foreign Ministry, said that the meeting will be attended by representatives of different state agencies and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and a large number of businessmen.

The meeting is meant to discuss means of benefiting from the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA) that was signed in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, on 5 May.

Representatives of the Sudanese government for the central coordination group, led by the State Minister for Finance, Lual Deng, left Sunday for the Dutch capital to take part at the workshop for assessment of Darfur development requirements.
