Sudan FM meets newly appointed ambassadors

June 19, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese Foreign Minister, Lam Akol, said that the appointment of ambassadors in compliance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) represented an important step in implementation of the agreement.

The minister met Monday with the newly appointed ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required to implement the policy of the national unity government, safeguard the national interest, attract investments and to protect the principles enshrined in the Constitution.

Akol said that the diverse vocational affiliations and experiences of the new ambassador would help reactivating the diplomatic work in Sudan.

The Sudanese president designed 21 Ambassadors on 24 May, 16 of them are proposed by the SPLM in accordance with the CPA.
