25 judges sworn in before the president of south Sudan.

June 28, 2006 (JUBA) — 25 judges of the supreme court, court of appeal and high court of southern Sudan were sworn in over the weekend in Juba before the president of southern Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Kiir_Paris.jpgThe Chief Justice of southern Sudan’s Supreme Court, Ambrose Ring Thik, presided over the swearing in ceremony, The Sudan Radio Service reported.

Addressing the newly appointed judges, Mayardit said that the government of southern Sudan is serious in establishing the rule of law in the region.

He said, “Today I reaffirm my support to judiciary and pledge my assistance in ensuring its quick establishment and smooth functioning. Therefore, I welcome your professional insight in what is needed and I would like to use this opportunity to create an open dialogue about how we can work together to create a better future for southern Sudan.”

South Sudan government called upon the judiciary to ensure that disputes are settled according to the laws of southern Sudan

Mayardit explained that the SPLM-led government of southern Sudan will guarantee peace by providing security to the people.

He urged the judiciary to prosecute all corrupt government officials without fear or favour.
