SPLM Ambassadors voice disapproval over grade of appointment
June 28, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The newly appointed Sudanese ambassadors started last week an intensive training course at the ministry of the Foreign affairs in Khartoum, amid some protests from SPLM ambassadors about their grade of appointment.
Some SPLM 16 Ambassadors protested over their low grade as they are veteran members of the former rebel SPLM. A leading SPLM member explained that some 16 Ambassadors are proposed by other southern forces.
But sources close to the Sudanese foreign minister is under huge pressure to explain how he concocted such list with some names proposed by the SPLM while they never been adherent in the movement.
Unconfirmed report said some of the SPLM Ambassadors threatened to present their resignation if their grade is not changed.
The affectation of the new ambassadors is not yet determined. May important embassy such Washington, London Cairo are without ambassadors, while in other countries like France the outgoing Ambassadors are at the end of their term.
On Saturday 27 May 2006, President Omar al-Bashir issued a republican decree appointing, in different grades, 21 ambassadors, 16 from the SPLM and other Southern political groups and 5 from the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).
