Sudanese delegation to Chad soon for talks on normalizations
July 14, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — A high-level government delegation is to leave within the coming days to the Chadian capital of N’djamena to discuss pending issues with Chadian officials.
It is expected to be a higher level delegation that could settle all pending political and security issues between the two countries, an informed source at Foreign Ministry told the official SUNA.
He referred to recent visit of the Chad’s Foreign Ministry to the country during which he conveyed a message from the Chadian president Debby to the Sudanese president al-Bashir dealt with restoration of relation between the two countries to its normal track, a step which was welcomed by President Al-Bashir.
The foreign minister of the African state of Chad arrived to Khartoum Monday 10 July on what was described as a mission to sound out the possibility of resuming relations with its estranged neighbour Sudan.
According to Tripoli Agreement, the two countries are to gradually restore their diplomatic relations and to overstep differences a move which to be followed by serious steps for border control.
Chad broke off diplomatic relations with eastern neighbour Sudan in April after rebels fighting to oust president Deby attacked the Chadian capital N’Djamena from the east. Chad accused Sudan of backing the rebel groups. Also, Sudanese government accused Chad of backing Darfur rebel groups.
