South Sudan donates SDP 17 mln for Mboro’s funeral

July 15, 2006 (JUBA) — The Government of National Unity (GoNU) has donated an amount of seventeen million Sudanese pounds (7.253 USD) for services during funeral of the Veteran Southern Sudanese Politician, Clement Mboro who died on Friday, July 7, 2006 at Nairobi West Hospital.

In a telephone interview with the Nairobi based Sudan Radio Service ont this Friday, July 14, 2006, the Deputy Governor and Minister of Health of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State, Col. Awad Juma Aman in Wau, said the Minister of Interior, Professor Zubeir Bashir Taha on behalf of Government of National Unity donated 17 million Sudanese pounds to the family of late Clement Mboro for the funeral services.

The amount donated was received by the Mboro Paramount Chief in Wau, Kamilo Gagi who is the Chief of Late Clement Mboro. According to WBGS’ Deputy Governors, 15 millions are donated for the services during the mourning period in Wau and 2 millions for Mboro area where late Clement Mboro was born.

Col. Awad body of late Clement Mboro who hailed from Western Bahr El-Ghazal was received in Wau at State level by a high Presidential delegation from Khartoum composing of the Presidential Advisor, Bona Malwal, Presidential Advisor, Haron Ron Lual, the Minister of Interior, Professor Zubeir Beshir Taha, Interior State Minister, Aleu Ayieny Aleu, the Director General of Police, Mj. Gen. Mahajub Abas and goof number of police officers from the Ministry of Interior.

Other dignitaries that were present in Wau to receive the body of Late Clement Mboro included the former Southern Sudanese who acted as Vice Presidents in the person of Gen. Joseph Lagu and Abel Alier and the former Chairman of Southern Sudan High Executive Council, Gen. Gismalla Abdullah Rasas and many other sons and daughters of Southern Sudan.

According to the Deputy Governor of WBGS, the body of the late Veteran Politician arrived Wau at 1:30 PM and was received by the State Government’s officials, members of Legislative Assembly, civilian, youth, students, women, religious leaders and people from different walks of life lined up from the airport up to the Government’s Headquarters where they paid homage to him, and later the body was taken to the house of the nephew of the late, Brigadier Stans Kamilo for relatives to pay last homage to the late according to the Ndogo customs.

The Acting Governor also mentioned that the body of Clement was then taken to St. Mary Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady Help of Christians where the Vicar General of Wau, Rev.Fr. Gabriel Leliwe Mangu presided over the “Requiem Mass” and later the body of the son of the soil was buried at Wau Freedom Square and witnessed by many people in Wau.

According to Awad Juma, the burial of Clement Mboro at Wau Freedom Square signifies the struggle of Clement Mboro for freedom for all Sudanese people. He describes Mboro as a “man of unity, peace and freedom fighter”. He said Mboro was the one during the 1947 Juba Conference demanded for unity of Sudan based on Federalism.

Juma said the Late Mboro played great role at the time Sudan was struggling for freedom from the colonialists, saying that the burial at “Freedom Square” was not by chance! He said Late Mboro while in exile in Nairobi, was one of the key-advisors to the Late SPLM/A Leader, Dr. John Garang de Mabior who died in a helicopter crash on July 30, 2005.

Juma reiterated the statement of David Basawini in Nairobi that, “the history of Southern Sudan and of Sudan can not be completed without Clement Mboro” whose death they describe as “An African and Southern Library burnt dawn”! Juma said Mboro was one of the well-known leaders of Sudan.

The WBGS’ Acting Governor revealed that Bona Malual and Prof. Zubeir Taha committed themselves on behalf of Government of National Unity to take care of two Rwandese ladies, Olivia Clement and her Rwandese keens mate who were brought up under the paternal care of Clement Mboro during the last 23 years. He said the GoNU officials promised to care for the two ladies till they complete their studies.

The Governor said the two ladies were flown from Wau to Khartoum yesterday, Thursday, July 13,2006 after the burial and currently in Khartoum and will be taken back to Nairobi in order to complete their studies according to GoNU’s promise made by Presidential Advisor and Interior Minister.

Also a scholarly delegation arrived from Juba on the same Thursday headed by the Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Drama, Professor, Taban Lo’ Lyong who joined in the funeral sermon in Wau.

In a related development, a high level delegation from the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) based in Juba headed by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Michael Mili Hussein and the Minister of Finance, Arthur Aquin arrived Wau this after noon (4:00 PM Wau Local Time), on this very Friday, July 14, 2006 at 4:00 PM.
The WBGS’ Governor in place, Awad Juma said the GoSS delegation brought condolences from the GoSS President, Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayrdit who arrived Juba from Yei upon completion of his trips to various areas in Bahr El-Ghazal, Western and Central Equatoria.
