Peace talks between Sudan, Eastern Front to resume next Monday
July 15, 2006 (ASMARA) — The second round of the peace talks between the Sudanese government and the rebel Eastern Front will resume here on Monday, July 17, according to the East Sudan Peace Talks Coordinating Committee.
A spokesman of the Committee told the Eritrean News Agency that the necessary preparations have been finalized and that the dialogue will get underway as scheduled.
On the basis of the agenda items to be mutually agreed by the two sides, they will continue discussions on the remaining during the second round of the dialogue.
The Government of Sudan and the East Sudan Front held dialogue for the first time following a series of contacts from 14 June to 19 June 2006 here in Asmara.
The two sides then signed two agreements, namely Declaration of Principles for Resolving the East Sudan Conflict, and Agreement on creating conducive atmosphere for peace.
