Sudanese Vice President starts one week visit to USA
July 18, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The First Vice-President, Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, today begins a one-week tour of the USA. He left the country yesterday for the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on his way to Washington.
Salva Kiir will meet the US president, George Bush, and officials in his administration to discuss the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Darfur peace accord, besides giving a briefing on the position of the Government of National Unity regarding a number of issues relating to the peace process in Sudan.
The first vice-president is accompanied by the secretary-general of the people’s movement [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement], Pagan Amum, and a number of officials in the government of the south.
The following GOSS and GONU senior government officials will accompany the First Vice President to the United States of America on an officials visit invited by President George Bush, and they are:-
1. Cdr. Pagan Amum Okiech, Advisor to the President of GOSS for Diplomatic Affairs and SPLM Secretary General.
2. Ms. Awut Deng Acuil, Advisor to the President of GOSS for Gender and Human Rights and SPLM Secretary for External Affairs.
3. Mr. Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, GOSS.
4. Mr. John Luk Jock, Minister of Culture, Youth & Sports, GOSS.
5. Mr. Gabriel Changson Chang, Minister of Parliamentarian Affairs, GOSS.
6. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, State Minster of International Cooperation, GONU.
7. Dr. Cirino Hiteng Ofuho, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation, GOSS.
