Sudan ruling party plays down Salva Kiir accusations

July 24, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese ruling party played down criticism by the Sudanese First Vice-President Salva Kiir, statements of the slow implementation of the peace deal in the United States.

The Presidential Advisor, Majzoub al-Khalifa ,said the visit paid by the First -Vice-President to the USA came within the framework of implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) pointing out to the statements made by Kiir and his call to the United States to contribute in the implementation of the CPA and not to escalate the issue of intervention of the international troops in Darfur

Al-Khalifa said in a press conference which he held in Al-Matama city yesterday that the implementation of the CPA is preceding satisfactorily.

These statements come after some ruling party NCP leading members made critical statements to Kiir statement before the SPLM chapters in the USA.

Presidential Assistant and Deputy Chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Nafi Ali Nafi has said on 22 July that issues related to the implementation of the peace agreement should be treated within the framework of the agreed upon organs instead of writing statements on newspapers and media organs.

He stressed that the NCP was determined to hold a joint meetings with SPLM to resolve these issues in accordance with the agreed upon principles.

While the secretary of the NCP parliamentary body, Ghazi Salah Eddin Attabani said that Kiir accusations are not supported and said that they were old and repeated accusations which had been sorted out through joint meetings between the two partners.

Regarding the Abyei issue and oil revenues, Ghazi said the recent joint meeting approved four proposals to solve the Abyei issue and in regard to oil revenues the concerned authorities clarified more than once that the sharing would be made according to the methodology stated in the agreement.

Regarding the work of the borders commission, he clarified that the person who had been appointed by SPLM was appointed in a ministerial position in the South Sudan government and was therefore a delay from the SPLM side
