Hundreds of Sudanese evacuated from Lebanon
July 29, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Hundreds of Sudanese nationals evacuated from Lebanon arrived in Khartoum on Saturday.
The 272 left war-hit Lebanon through the Syrian capital of Damascus. Almost 3,000 Sudanese have now left Lebanon.
At least another 25 are at the Lebanon-Syria border, the Sudanese ambassador to Damascus, Abdelrahman Dirar, was quoted as saying by Sudan’s official news agency.
Sudan’s Embassy in Damascus has set up chambers of operations in Al-Dabosiya and Al-Jadidah to work hand-in-hand with the Syrian Immigration Authority to renew the passports or give the Sudanese returnees Emergency Travel Documents.
The Embassy further has arranged for the departure of the Sudanese returnees in coordination with Sudan Airways, Expatriates Authority and Ministry of Finance.
