Darfur peace parties to announce deal implementation

July 30, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Presidential Advisor Majzoub al-Khalifa has said that Darfur Peace Agreement parties will issue a joint statement within the coming days to make public what has been achieved in the DPA implementation.

Alkhalifa_Minawi.jpgAl-Khalifa said following his meeting with the representative of the chairman of African Union commission that a timetable for meetings of joint commissions would be announced continually according to the agreement.

The African Union brokered the peace talks between the Sudanese government and the three Darfur rebel groups held in the Nigerian capital Abuja. But, Khartoum under the international pressure has succeeded to sign the DPA the Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minawi alone. The other groups rejected the deal.

A joint meeting will also be held in Addis Ababa on the third of next August on cease-fire. The government and signatories to the peace agreement will participate in this meeting, along with those groups which have joined the agreement recently, Al-Khalifa indicated.

the Principal signatory of the peace deal with Khartoum, Minni Minawi is expected to arrive in the Sudanese capital on 5 August.

Sudanese President Al-Bashir acquainted the council of ministers today on the outcome of Sudan’s participation in the Leon Sullivan summit on African-American cooperation which was recently held in the Nigerian capital of Abuja.

He said that the summit presented the opportunity to correct the wrong concepts about what is happening in Darfur which was being circulated by the media, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the government’s efforts to bring about peace in all parts of the country and explain the negative impact the American sanctions had on the humanitarian situation in Darfur.
