Sudanese rebels to release abducted aid workers on 22 November

KHARTOUM, Nov. 22, 2003 — The [rebel] JEM [Justice and Equality Movement, which is fighting to end Darfur region’s economic neglect by Khartoum] has said it will hand over five abducted aid workers employed by Swiss NGO Medair, to Medecins Sans Frontieres in the Chadian town of Tina [along the Sudan-Chad border] today.
The handing over will take place in the presence of Chadian officials and international organizations.
In a statement to Al-Khartoum, JEM’s leader Khalil Ibrahim, denied his group had been detaining the five aid workers and said the reports were untrue.
