Sudan’s govt parties meet Saturday to boost partnership
Aug 3, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Officials from the two major partners of the government of National Unity will meet to discuss set up of joint structures to boost their partnership and peace implementation in the country.
Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for Political and Organizational and Political Affairs, Nafei Ali Nafei, will meet Saturday with the Secretary General of Sudan Liberation Movement (SPLM), Pagan Amum to discuss issues pertinent to the establishment of joint organs of the two parties, as agreed upon at the joint meeting of the National Congress and SPLM leaderships.
The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) held their first joint meeting since the formation of the government of national unity during two days at the end of May (27-29 May).
The two partners agreed on the existence of coordination mechanisms to guarantee the implementation of the peace agreement, adoption of an information line which is based on the coordination between the two parties, intensifying the work to boost the mutual confidence between the two partners, expanding the scope of dialogue, guaranteeing the participation of the other political forces in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
The two parties also agreed to boost the establishment of the institutions for good governance, normalization of the relations with the neighbouring countries as well as speeding up the process to implement Darfur peace agreement.
The meeting also called on the Presidency of the Republic to speed up the process for establishment of the National Fund for Development and Rehabilitation, and stressed the importance of joint work to enhance the work of the National Petroleum Commission.
