Sudanese militant groups plan to attack areas in Darfur?

KHARTOUM, Nov. 22, 2003 (KUNA) — Some Sudanese militant groups are planning to ‏‏attack some areas in Darfur, Western Sudan, the Sudanese News Agency said on ‏‏Saturday.

The Agency quoted some sources, which it did not name, as saying that plans ‏‏and preparations for this attack are almost complete but the specific targets ‏‏are still unknown.‏

The agency said the military operations in Darfur launched by military ‏‏groups were aimed at providing means of transportation and preparing for ‏‏attack on these areas.‏

‏It said these plans come despite all efforts and steps aimed at achieving ‏‏peace and stability for citizens in Darfur.‏

‏On September 4, 2002, the Sudanese government signed an agreement with ‏‏Darfur rebels represented by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), which called ‏‏for a cease-fire and staring a direct dialogue.‏

‏Yet there are some other groups outside this agreement continue their ‏‏military operations against the government.
