NCP, SPLM form three panels for Sudan’s CPA pending issues
Aug 8, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese government political partners decided in a meeting held today to form three joint sub-committees for political, security and economic committees to discuss pending issues in peace implementation.
The National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) held a meeting Tuesday at the headquarters of the National Congress to discuss implementation of last May joint meeting of the leadership of the two parties.
The Secretary General of the SPLM, Pagan Amum, said that the two parties agreed on establishment of branch committees, adding that the Joint Political Committee will continue its meeting on Wednesday to review political issues, topics relating to the partnership between the National Congress and the general situation in the country.
Amum said that the Joint Political Committee underscored the continuity of implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and removing any impediment that confront its implementation, through a unified political will.
He added that the meeting will review on Wednesday issues pertinent to the foreign policy, information issues and ways to surpass any differences. Amum said that the issue of Abyei area will be discussed by the concerned sub-committee of the Joint Political Committee.
The Joint NCP/SPLM Political Committee is discussing the positive cooperation between the two parties in the context of the political partnership between them, besides assessment of the joint work process in the past period and solution for any shortcomings” said Nafei Ali Nafei.
The National Congress side was headed by Assistant of the President of the Republic and Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for Political and Organizational Affairs, while the SPLM party was chaired by the movement’s Secretary General, Pagan Amum.
