Sudan starts works in Juba-Nairobi, Juba-Kosti roads
Aug 13, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Federal Minister of Transport, Roads and Bridges, Engineer Kol Maniang Jok, has announced the beginning of work for establishment of Juba – Kenya road and Kosti – Juba highway as well as other border roads toward boosting the transport, investment, economic and development process in south Sudan.
In a statement to the state-run SUNA, the minister said that a memo of understanding is signed with China for rehabilitation of the transport sector in Sudan, adding that other cooperation programmes will be implemented by South Africa for maintenance of locomotives and steamers.
He said that the door is open for investment at the railways field in the country, referring to ongoing work for rehabilitation and maintenance of roads all over Sudan.
The minister also pointed to the efforts of his ministry for rehabilitation of the river ports and improvement of the performance and introduction of modern technology at the river transport sector. He said that work began for establishment of Hamashkoraib – Kassala road in eastern Sudan.
