Private firm supplies water to CES institutions in Juba
Aug 14, 2006 (JUBA) — The government of Central Equatoria State has contracted a private firm to treat and supply water to Public institutions in Juba town. The regional government didn’t disclose any plan to cover the whole city.
The Director of Water in Central Equatoria, Joseph Amosa Ebere, told Sudan Radio Service that Spencom Water Company will supply water to government offices, official residences and public places in Juba. However, Ebere added that other residents of Juba will continue to face a shortage of treated water.
Speaking in Juba last week, the state official blamed the region’s water shortage on network pipes — which he says– “are too old to supply water.”
“Juba population does not get safe water. This is definitely because the treatment plant capacity is small. Secondly, water networks do not cover the whole of Juba. Sometimes other areas in Juba do not get water because of the above issues” said Ebere.
The urban water supply pipes were installed in 1930 by the British colonial government and are now worn out. It is not yet clear whether the Government of Southern Sudan plans to replace them.
