Al Bashir makes Eid appeal for unity at home and in the Islamic world
KHARTOUM, Nov. 25, 2003 — A message by President Umar al-Bashir on the occasion of Eid al- Fitr was broadcast by Sudanese radio on 25 November.
Al-Bashir’s message consisted of 10 points, each addressed to a specific section of society (women, religious scholars, the youth, etc).
He said: “The ninth message is to all citizens – Muslims, Christians and others – to promote the values of forgiveness and the coexistence which has been existing, until voluntary national unity is attained under the banners of peace and love. All of us are from Adam, and Adam is from dust.”
The president’s final point was: “The 10th message is a call to our Islamic world to reject the causes of differences and disunity. We should agree on one word and tell the world that God’s religion is Islam. Islam is a religion of peace, and in our religion violence is abhorred and the killing of a soul is forbidden except under legal circumstances.”
