Chinese company renovates South Sudan parliament

Aug 22, 2006 (JUBA) — The Government of Southern Sudan has contracted a Chinese construction company to renovate the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly building in Juba town.

The contracted company will install all equipment needed for running of the Assembly as well as increase the Assembly’s sitting capacity from its current 150 people to 200 people.

The Director for Administration and Finance at the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, Emmanuel Sokiri Lugor, told Sudan radio service that he expected the renovation exercise to be completed in November this year.

“We are going to make the main hall ready to make honorable members exercise their duties, although it may disturb the sittings but that is all we can do. The work is going to continue and the assembly is going to continue also. The contract was done by GOSS and the Ministry of Finance is going to pay but I cannot tell how much it is now,” he said.

However, the director declined to name the Chinese company or disclose how much money the Government of Southern Sudan will pay for the renovation.
