Sudan releases Slovene envoy jailed for espionage
Sept 2, 2006 (KHARTOUM) –- Sudanese president Omer al-Bashir has issued a decision releasing the presidential Slovene envoy from jail, the state-run SUNA reported.
Sudan’s Al-Fasher court has sentenced Slovene president’s special envoy, Tomo Kriznar, to two years jail for spying, publishing false reports, and entering the country illegally.
The Slovene president Janez Drnovsek’s dispatched a special envoy to Khartoum since two week to plaid the release of kriznar.
It seems that the special envoy, Hamdija Blekic, has succeeded to convince Khartoum to release him.
Slovenian President, Drnovsek addressed a special letter to Sudanese President Omar al Bashir on 14 August in which he asks for his envoy to be released from prison.
Tomo Kriznar, a peace activist who traveled to Sudan’s troubled Darfur region in February as the Slovenian president’s envoy, had been in custody since July 20.
