Blankets and Tarpaulins to Returnees in Central Equatoria

August 30, 2006 — On 29 August 2006, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Juba Sub-Delegation delivered and distributed non-food items (NFIs) to returnees in Ganji, Kulipapa,and Kworojik Bungu in Central Eqautoria state. The returnees were largely those who were either ousted from their habitual resident to other states within Sudan, Internally Displaced Persons IDPs or refugees to the neighbouring countries; commonly Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. The intervention came as result of an assessment report carried out by SRCS staffs and its volunteers, last Friday, 25 August 2006. They identified that 262 households;126 households in Gangi,19 household in Kulipapa and 117 in Kworojik Bungu were in need of humanitarian assistant..

Distribution to all the three locations were implemented in front of the local chiefs ,of which 524 blankets,262 plastic sheeting,262 mosquito nets,262 long bars of washing soap, and 262 plastic washing containers. The distribution translated into a household receiving two blankets, one plastic sheeting, one mosquito net, washing soap and one washing container.

The Dissemination Officer of SRCS explained the mandate of the SRCS and how it is linked to other components of Red Cross and Red Crescent (RC/RC) Movement.
