Machar urges S. Sudan governors to formulate water policy
Sept 22, 2006 (RUMBEK) — The Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan has called on the governors of the 10 states of southern Sudan to formulate a policy for the management of natural resources especially water.
In a speech read on his behalf in a workshop on water resources management in Rumbek on Wednesday, Riek Machar told the governors and county commissioners that the water policy workshop should focused on the present and future development surrounding the management and utilization of water resources.
He said since time immemorial the Nile River has always been both a blessing and a source of conflict in the Sudan., the Sudan Radio Service reprted.
Machar said the Nile River was under-utilized during the war and this is the right time to formulate policies which will allow maximum use of the river.
