Eastern Nile Basin countries discuss water joint projects
Sept 23, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Eastern Nile Basin countries held a meeting last week in Cairo to discuss joint projects between the state members on the field of water resources.
The meetings reviewed progress of works at joint projects in fields of sediment, early warning of flood and hydro-power among Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia.
Sudan has participated with a delegation led by Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Engineer. Kamal Ali Mohammed in the meetings of the Ministers of that took place in Cairo last week.
The minister presented to the meeting a report on hydraulic aspects of this year flooding which he said registered unprecedented levels, calling for establishment of early warning projects to ward off the impacts of floods.
The report indicated to sedimentation accompanied flooding this year that would negatively affect the storage capacity of reservoirs.
It was agreed that the next meeting would be held in Addis Ababa in 2007.
