Government, opposition sign agreement on political reconciliation
KHARTOUM, Dec 04, 2003 (MENA) — First Vice-President Ali Uthman Taha on Thursday evening signed an agreement on political reconciliation with Uthman al-Mirghani, the chairman of the opposition Sudanese Democratic Unionist Party.
MENA correspondent in Khartoum learnt from Sudanese sources that the agreement, signed in the Saudi city of Jedda, envisages starting direct dialogue between the government and the opposition in a bid to establish peace in Sudan.
Also, Al-Mirghani, according to the agreement, will return home to start his political activities from inside Sudan.
The accord calls for stopping military action that some opposition factions are still mounting against Sudanese targets.
