Eastern Front rejects deployment of UN forces in Darfur
Oct 4, 2006 (ASMARA) — The rebel Eastern Front affirmed its rejection to any foreign intervention in the war-torn region of Darfur, the official SUNA reported.
Eastern Front since June holds talks with the Sudanese government in the Eritrean capital Asmara, to end end war in Eastern Sudan region.
A delegation of the eastern Sudan rebel group said they would stand ready to fight these invading forces even if they were not able to sign a peace deal in Amsara and that after pushing invaders out they would return to Asmara once again for the negotiations.
This came during the meeting held between the East Front delegation and the visiting popular delegation to Eritrea nowadays.
Head of East Department in the ruling National Congress Party, Salah Ali Adam, lauded the tremendous role played by Eritrea in sponsoring the negotiations that have scored progress towards signing the agreements on wealth distribution and security arrangements.
The Head of the East Front, Ahmed Musa, said the visit of the popular delegation was a real chance to support the negotiations and consultations on national issues being discussed.
He also said that the visit was considered a good impetus for the negotiating parties.
Musa said that the Eritrean mediator has played a major role in the negotiations and that government delegation was experienced and well aware of the issues of the East.
He noted that they started practical steps in all files a matter that led to signing of the two previous protocols on wealth distribution and security arrangements, which included integration of the East Front forces into the regular forces.
The rebel leader pointed out that the discussion on power-sharing file has made progress and that it is one of the most important files, describing negotiations with the government delegation as being conducted in a good atmosphere.
He praised the role of the Eritrean mediator in the negotiations, saying we will reach an agreement on ending the war between Sudanese people.
