Inflation rate registered 15,7 percent in September
Oct 4, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The inflation rate registered 15,7 percent in September compared to 5,2 percent in August and it considered a higher rate of inflation since December 1999.
This higher rate of inflation is attributed to the increase in prices of the oil in August a matter that affected in the prices of commodities and transport.
The rate of inflation in the transport and communication hit to 113,3 percent in contrast to 20.0 percent in the last August.
It referred that to the increase in the prices of Gas to 28percent, Benzine 18 percent Gasoline 12 percent. A matter that led to increase in fees of minibus and buses with 91percent and taxi with 9 percent
In a report on the price increase of basic commodities, the Central Statistics Bureau indicated that price of goods such as the bread increased with 2,4 percent by decreasing the weight of bread and fixing the prices. While the prices of chickens climbed to 26percent, fish to 14 percent , milk to 4,5 percent , eggs to 6,7 percent ,beans to 8 percent ,bananas to 26 percent , lemon to 11,5percent, guava to 15 percent, coffee to 9 percent and spud to 10 percent
The report pointed other factors that led to increase in the inflation rate for this month. It noted that the month of December 2005 recorded maximum decrease in the prices due to the economic procedures adopted by the Ministry of Finance in July and August months. In a way of importing some goods such as cereal and sugar and covering the local markets with meats from production areas, a matter that led to decrease the number of maximum prices in September 2005 to 5percent.
On 17 August, the Ministry of Finance and National Economy has adopted a package of financial measures to fill a budget deficit amounting to 543 billion Sudanese dinars.
The federal minister of Finances, Zubair Ahmed Hassan, announced that these measures include lifting subsidies on petroleum products by 50%, where the price of benzene was increased from 550 dinars to 650 dinars a gallon and gasoline from 350 dinars to 450 dinars a gallon.
