NRF Scores another Defeat on GoS/Janjaweed Forces
Ocotaber 7, 2006: Accornding to fresh news from Darfur, a combined force of GoS and Janjaweed battalion suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the NRF at Karijari (also pronounced Kariari), 120km north of Tina, North Darfur.
Few days ago, the NRF responded to Mr Pronk’s appeal and declared commitment to a ceasefire during the whole month of Ramandan. In its unilateral response to the appeal, the NRF was hoping to convert the sanctitity of Ramadan into an auspicious time for mediation in Darfur crisis.
Today, October 7th 06, 5pm local time, the NRF was attacked by a combined force of GoS and Jnajaweed made of 2000 fighters on camels, horses and over 100 armoured vehicles. The foerce was summarily crushed leaving hehind 10 destroyed cars and 90 captured.
Captive soldiers revealed that their force was part of a new government offensive made of government army, Janjaweed, fighters loyal to SLM-Minnawi faction and newly gathered Chadian rebels.
