Sudan, eastern rebels to sign power sharing deal

Oct 8, 2006 (ASMARA) — The chairman of the Eastern Front, Musa Mohamed Ahmad, has announced that the coming hours will witness the initial signing of power-sharing agreement.

In an interview with the Radio Omdurman from the Eritrean capital, Asmara, he said the talks are going well, amid understanding, positive response and flexibility of the two sides, besides their readiness to reach a fair solution to the eastern issue.

The Eastern Front chairman lauded the role of the Eritrean mediator for playing significant role in bringing the divergence views closer and winning the trust and confidence of both parties, an issue that lead to the signing of the wealth and security arrangement agreements.

He further clarified that the agreements will bring a huge change to the situation in eastern Sudan and addressing all its pending issues.

Musa said after signing the power-sharing dossier, the two parties would be engaged in negotiations on the implementation mechanisms of what had been agreed.
