Ex-rebel leader requests full implementation of Asmara accord
Oct 14, 2006 (ASMARA) -– The leader of Eastern Sudan rebel group hailed the signed accord with the Sudanese government here today, but he warned that his group will request the scrupulous implementation of the accord.
Addressing Saturday afternoon a celebration in Asmara marking the signing of East Sudan Peace Agreement (ESPA), Chairman of the East Front, Musa Mohamed Ahmed said that the signing of the agreement alone is not enough to solve east Sudan problems, emphasizing that the protocols and clauses of the peace agreement should be implemented with credibility and honesty.
He further said that the signed deal provides major and substantial gains for the region and responds to the aspirations of the people of East Sudan.
He affirmed the resolution of the East Front to contribute to the re-building in Sudan and to boost its unity, protect its sovereignty, help solution of Darfur problem and making the unity as attractive choice of the southerners by the end of the interim period.
Chairman of the East Front appreciated the wisdom at the side of the government delegation for the peace negotiations, which was headed by the Presidential Advisor, Mustafa Osman Ismail.
But he Longley insisted on the Eritrean efforts for the success of the peace talks, praising the role of the Eritrean president for the conclusion of the deal. Ahmed said that the border between Sudan and Eritrea will witness reactivation of the border trade, referring to the special ties between the peoples of east Sudan and Eritrea.
Ahmed pledged that the East Front will work for the defence of the nation’s causes through a political party that will adhere to the institutionalization and transparency, give maximum concern to aspiration of east Sudan people, combating poverty, ignorance and disease, abandoning the shortcomings of the past and bolstering the stability and development in the region.
