AU chairperson hails Rwandan forces performance in Darfur

Oct 15, 2006 (KIGALI) — The African Union Chairperson, who discussed in Kigali the upcoming security meeting, praised the exemplary role of the Rwandan forces in the AU peacekeeping mission in Sudan’s troubled region of Darfur.

The chairperson of the African Union Commission, Alpha Oumar Konare, says that Africa is proud of the Rwanda Defence Forces because of their disciple and exemplary performance in the peacekeeping mission in the Sudanese region of Darfur.

Konare was speaking in Kigali on Sunday 15 October after his meeting with President Paul Kagame. In that meeting the two leaders discussed upcoming meetings on security issues in various African states.

The first one to be held next week will be on the Ivorian situation. This will be followed by another pan-African meeting on the Darfur crisis.

The AU Commission chairperson hailed President Kagame’s commitment to the peace process in Africa saying his contribution in the two meeting is of paramount importance.

Alpha Konare arrived in Rwanda on Saturday and left Kigali this afternoon.
