Oct 15, 2006 (OMDURMAN, Sudan) — The Sudanese public needs to be made aware of the fact that some confusing political and military-like talks have been filling the media recently in the name of the South Sudan United Democratic Alliance (SSUDA). In my capacity as the Secretary General of this Party, I would like to seize this opportunity to illuminate what this party has been doing here in Sudan, since it acquired the certificate of legal status on the 19th day of June in the year 2006.
SSUDA is purely a political party that intends to participate in both the Government of National Unity and the Government of Southern Sudan at anytime, and our connection with the South Sudan Defense Forces (SSDF), which is known to have been formed by the UDSF in 1997 has been to persuade their leadership to seek a peaceful solution to their marginalization during the peace negotiations in Kenya.
We in the SSUDA have dedicated, committed and pledged to safeguard the political destiny and the right to development of our people by organizing the South Sudan United Democratic Alliance (SSUDA). SSUDA shall seek to create an alternative conducive political environment, visionary democratic leadership, tolerance and good governance based on federalism and multi-partisanship that would cope with the challenge of the 21 1st Century in the Sudan and resolved the constantly search for comprehensive political solution to the current conflicts in our country .
For the reason that our main mission is to pioneer democracy through dialogue; tolerance by promoting culture of peace; good governance; freedom of expression and assembly; social justice and liberty; respect for human rights; unity and equality for all; and one indivisible South Sudan, the scope of our influence has constantly been narrowed by this guiding principle.
Henceforth, SSUDA as a political organization shall not allow any group or individuals to misuse and spoil its name for unknown purposes to its legitimate members. As for the so-called “SSDF-Independent Command”, we categorically denied this organization’s connection with SSUDA if, at all, this military-like organization does exist anywhere.
Thus, we applauded the recent move made by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Unity and senior member of the SPLM, who coordinated the meeting between the first vice president and the president of the government of South Sudan. Dr. Akol’s action has been appreciated and highly commended by the leadership of this party, as the first step towards Sudanese total Unity. In this juncture, we in the SSUDA have congratulated Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardity, First vice President of the Republic, President of the Government of South Sudan and Chairman of the SPLM, who has in person met and discussed with SSDF Leaders led by Gordon Koang Chol the issues that might have brought about some misunderstandings between them. However, more work still needs to be done in order for the South to enjoy the real peace it has been longing for.
The report of the President of the Government of South Sudan in his opening speech to the Parliament in Juba recently, in which he identified some other Armed groups “without Command”, is one of our major concerns which needs the Government of National Unity to take note of.
Therefore, it is crucial for all Southern Sudanese inside and all over the world to know that both NCP and the SPLM are now partially engaging in solving SSDF’s predicament through peaceful means. Such an undertaking as been the fundamental area of our advocacy behind the scene to make sure that Southerners are united in order for the whole country to have a meaningful unity and maintain a sustainable development.
We congratulated the Government of National Unity under the leadership of the President Al Bashir and the Eastern Front that signed the final peace deal in Asmara yesterday, and we wish to the people of the East to join the people of the South and the West Sudan in our nation-building endeavor.
We are hereby calling upon all peace-loving Sudanese to hail the current positive development in our country by stopping all negative media campaigns that mean nothing but destructions and backwardness. We further called on the SPLM-led government in the South to create a peaceful atmosphere conducive enough for all the parties to partake in our nation-building process. We furthermore called on other parties that are parts of Southern government and the government of National Unity to carry on the peace message to their respective Constituencies.
PEACE!
Thomas Tut Doap, Secretary General of SSUDA
