President Bush Telephones Garang and invite him to the White House

NAIROBI, Dec 08, 2003 (Sudan Tribune) — The President of the United States George W. Bush had a 20 minutes telephone conversation with the SPLM/A Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLA Dr. John Garang de Mabior this afternoon December 8, 2003. The US President telephoned the SPLM/A Leader to discuss matters pertaining to Sudan Peace Process and the on going 3rd round of the High Level consultative meeting between the SPLM Chairman and the 1st Vice President of Sudan Ali Osman Mohmad Taha.

Sources closed to the SPLM Leader described the telephone conversation between the SPLM Chairman Dr. John Garang de Mabior and the President of the United States of America as fruitful, candid and frank.

It is to be recalled that in October this year, the US Secretary of States Colin Powel traveled to Kenya to help push the Peace Process forward. The telephone conversation and the visit of the Secretary of States are indicative of the fact that United States of America is genuine in its resolve to help in the search for peace in the Sudan.

The SPLM Chairman has already described the road to peace as irreversible and as such, a High Level SPLM delegation is now in Khartoum on a Good Will Mission.

The SPLM/A Chairman and C-in-C Dr. John Garang de Mabior has been invited by President Bush to the White House to mark the signing of the Sudan Peace Agreement.
