Sudan says Chad supporting Darfur rebels
Oct 30, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese government has reiterated accusation against Chad of providing logistical and financial support to Darfur rebels
Sudanese foreign ministry Monday accused Chad of support to the rebel National Redemption Front logistically and financially.
Without Chad’s support, the National Redemption Front could have not done so, said the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ali Al Sadiq.
He pointed out that Sudan will deal with Chad according to Tripoli agreement, the agreed upon mechanisms and legal channels.
“Chad is an important neighbouring country, therefore any escalation between Sudan and Chad is of no use to each of the two countries, which are linked to each another with eternal relations at both the official and people’s levels,” he said.
Sudan and Chad trade accusations of supporting rebel groups in both countries. In last April after rebel attack on the Chadian capital N’djamena, President Idriss Deby severed the relations between the countries
Sudan on Saturday 29 October denied a Chadian report that Sudanese planes bombed four villages in western Chad near the volatile Darfur region.
On Friday the UN announced that it was sending a mission to Chad and the Central African Republic to look at how to curb escalating violence in Darfur that is spilling into bordering countries.
