New dates for Khartoum SDP summit agreed with government

Sudan Development Program

Press release

Nov 7, 2006 — Following instruction and direction from the new Unity Government of the Republic of The Sudan, it has been confirmed that the second Sudan Development Summit – the first event of its kind to take place in Khartoum – will now be taking place on 19-21 March 2007.

An important reason for rescheduling the dates is to maximise the participation of Unity Government and GOSS Ministers for the benefit of attending international delegates.

The summit will look to draw on the success of the inaugural Sudan Development Summit, which took place in Dubai on 12-14 February 2006 and was responsible for over $460 million in contracts being signed between Sudanese and international companies, along with a number of ministerial and other trade agreements being concluded.

The event is to be held at the much revered Friendship Hall, a prestigious venue that has played host to meetings of both the African Union and the Arab League in the past.

The Unity Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Sudan Development Program, which focuses on the massive potential of Sudan, with its strong growing economy and immense natural resources. The summit will be blessed with a strong contingent from the Unity Government of Sudan, as well as a lead ministerial delegation from the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS).

The summit will take place on a number of levels, including key note panel presentations from government officials and senior business figures, one-to-one meetings, industry-specific workshops and an international exhibition.

Sectors covered will include infrastructure, irrigation and water, agriculture, oil, gas, mining, transport, inward investment, information and communication technology and security.

The summit has received tremendous feedback, with the majority of available places already taken. There are however a select few places remaining at the summit for those companies best suited to conducting business within Sudan.
