France, Germany to provide humanitarian aid to Darfur

KHARTOUM, Dec 10, 2003 — The German ambassador and the French charge d’affaires in Khartoum held a news conference this afternoon at the German embassy in Khartoum.

The conference touched on the outcome of the visit of the German and French delegates to Nyala, Southern Darfur State [western Sudan], to assess the security and health situation of the citizens and the humanitarian aid needed.

The German ambassador said the situation in Darfur was satisfactory.

The German embassy had provided aid to the citizens through the ICRC in cooperation with the Red Crescent Society of Sudan.

For his part, the French charge d’affaires in Khartoum, Isa Amaru [as heard], touched on the aim of the officials’ visit and their meetings with the state’s officials, who said the situation was stable. He said France was keen to extend humanitarian and health aid to the citizens of southern Darfur.
