NRF Welcomes Courageous Support offered by Nuer Community in North America
Nov 14, 2006 — The NRF welcomes decision of the Supreme Council of the Nuer Community in North America (UNCONA), November 10th and its pledge to support the NRF is its struggle against injustice, displacement and oppression. Darfur struggle is now at a turning point. It is a struggle against genocide, annihilation and ethnic cleansing. These are the same ills which the courageous people of the south have fought for over five decades and the victory is not yet conclusive.
We commend UNCONA for spearheading the arduous task of laying the first brick for the unity of the marginalized people against the hegemony of the Jallaba institution which has so far obstructed the emergence of the New Sudan; a Sudan that is open for all, irrespective of cultural, regional, ethnic or religious affiliations. We assure UNICONA that the NRF stands ready for all efforts to unify the maginalised in country and to work for peaceful coexistence and development across the nation.
The NRF also notes the message posted by the Nuer Elders in Europe, Canada, the USA and Australia, November 13th and their call for peaceful solution of Sudan’s problem. The military road has never been the choice of Darfur people and had never been the preferred option for the people of the south either. War has been foisted on us by Khartoum government. The NRF is ready for a negotiated settlement of Darfur crisis which is indivisible from other similar problems across the nation. In the absence of that, war remains the only option.
