Sudan’s partners reach agreement on oil commission
Nov 14, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit Tuesday announced that final agreement has been reached on the outstanding issues pertinent to the National Petroleum Commission.
The First Vice President announced following his meeting with a delegation of the Petroleum Commission, headed by Minister of Industry Jalal Al-Degair, at the Republican Palace Tuesday that the problem of the commission has come to an end by completely resolving the outstanding issues.
Al-Degair said in that the commission would commence its work during the current month after completion of its laws and internal regulations, the state-run SUNA reported without further details.
Al-Degair, who is member of the commission, pointed that the petroleum sector is one of the important sectors, which is anticipated to contribute effectively in boosting development in the north and the south and one of the effective mechanisms for consolidating national unity, which is sought by all through implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
On his part, Minister of Cabinet Affairs at the Government of Southern Sudan Loka Beyong, a member of the commission, expressed following the meeting pleasure over reaching total agreement concerning the internal regulations of the commission, describing this as a great achievement and a step forward in implementation of the peace agreement.
He said the meeting was dominated by good spirit, saying such a spirit would contribute to smooth implementation of the peace agreement.
