Sudan’s First Vice-President to visit Egypt on Tuesday

Nov 15, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese First Vice and president of southern Sudan government is expected to visit Egypt next week for talks on southern Sudan economic development.

The First Vice-President Salva Kiir Mayardit, will leave next Tuesday for Cairo on a three-day visit to hold talks with the Egyptian leadership on the development and rehabilitation efforts in south Sudan and fields where Egypt can contribute in.

The First Vice – President will acquaint the Egyptian officials during the visit with the peace and stability process in Sudan, and the efforts to implement the peace agreements on the ground.

Egypt intends to follow closely the peace implementation in the south. Observers say Egypt worry of the ruling party management of the peace file. Cairo believes that more concern should be given to South Sudan development. The political tug of war between the two big partners of the national unity government angers Cairo which sees in such manner the National Congress inciting the south to opt for independence.

Slva Kiir who had visited Cairo after in September last year had adjourned a second visit to Cairo in January after the killing of Sudanese refugees by Egyptian police. South Sudan government duties obligated him to delay for the second time his visit to Cairo in August 2006.

Besides its direct contribution, Egypt is expected to lobby Arabic countries to invest and participate in the build-up of the south.

The First Vice – President will be accompanied during the visit with the Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mansour Khalid, the State Minister at the Presidency, Telar Deng, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Al-Samani Al-Wasila, along with a number of ministers in South Sudan Government.
