Ethiopia to implement oil data for foreign investors

Dec 3, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) — Ethiopian government said is planning to realize a petroleum data management system project in order to provide information to foreign investors willing to work un the oil sector.

Public Relations Service Head in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Sofia Mohammed said that it is engaged in activities aimed at building its capacity of providing full local and international information on petroleum during the budget year.

The activities would help the Ministry to provide adequate information on studies conducted in the field at various times, Samia told the state-run ENA.

She said agreements have been reached with companies desirous to be engaged in petroleum exploration and development works in Ethiopia, adding preparations are being underway for the signing of the agreement document with Lundin petroleum Company, as it was approved by the council of Ministers.

Negotiations are also being carried out with Global Oil Company, she added.

Meanwhile, decisions reached on the agreement document submitted by the Petronas Company for petroleum exploration and development at block 11 and 15 of Ogaden Basin have been sent to the company, Samia said.

Moreover, the Company won the bid to develop the Calub and Hilala, while the first round of the agreement was carried out after evaluating the agreement document submitted by the company, she said.

More than two companies have requested to carry out petroleum exploration and development at blocks seven and eight of the Ogaden Basin, while preparation of bid documents is being underway.

Agreements are being underway on the proposal submitted by K and S, a local company, in collaboration with Westminster Oil Ltd, a British Company, providing for the exploration and development of petroleum in north Gambella and Benishangul Gumuz State, she said.
