SPLA general defects to South Sudan militia
Dec 5, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Brigadier Philip Machar one of major military factions leader in west Nuer Area has defected from the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. He declared joining Southern Sudan Defence Forces SSDF.
South Susan Defence Force (SSDF) senior officers including generals Gabrial Tang and Gordon have received the new member warmly at Khartoum airport arriving from the south.
Gen Machar told the pro-ruling party news service SMC that he decided quit SPLM because he was marginalized. He said he has been member of SPLM for five years without functions.
Gen Gobrial on his part considers joining of Gen Machar to SSDF as real plus to peace process.
Brigadier Machar said has a force formed form 5000 soldiers.
