Haneya praises Sudanese support for Palestinian cause
Dec 12, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Visiting Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya Tuesday appreciated Sudan for its continuous role in supporting the Palestinian cause.
Haneya told reporters following his meeting with Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir that he is grateful to President Bashir for his firm support to the Palestinian cause, which aimed at the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He said that he briefed President Bashir during their meeting the current situation in the Palestinian arena, especially the blockade imposed by Israel on the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian prime minister said that he discussed with President Bashir the assistance which could be provided by the Arab countries in relieving the Palestinian people’s suffering due to the Israeli siege.
Haneya said that President Bashir pledged to make contacts with the Arab leaders to persuade them to fulfill their commitments to the resolution adopted at the Arab League summit held in Khartoum this March, which approved a monthly delivery of 55 million U.S. dollars to the Palestinian people in aid.
Haneya arrived in Khartoum on Monday to continue his first tour abroad since he took office in March.
His visit to Sudan came after he wrapped up his visits to Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Syria, and Iran, where he made the similar efforts to rally support for the Palestinian cause and break up siege imposed by the West and Israel.
